Saint Andrew's has a tremendously active music
and choir programme which is supported by generous and talented people.
The Sanctuary Choir
The choir contributes substantially to most morning worship services and
leads the Congregation in singing. The choir's function is to contribute to
worship sensitively while pursuing excellence in a very wide range of music.
Its most important role is in leading the musical praise of God by singing with
and supporting the congregation.
Sinfonia of Saint Andrew's
This orchestra regularly presents concerts of classical music both at Saint
Andrew's and at other venues throughout Brisbane partnering other groups such as
the Queensland Choir, Brisbane Chorale, the University Music Society and the
Ipswich Cambrian Choir. The orchestra's policy is to encourage young musicians
to perform alongside experienced professional players and to represent the
church as part of its Ministry. Last year it produced a successful CD of
Christmas Music with the Ipswich Cambrian Choir. For any enquiries regarding
future bookings for the Orchestra or its Ensembles, please contact Graham Evans,
General Manager (07) 3371 0420.
Brisbane Concert Choir at Saint Andrew's
Founded in 1996, this community choir presents choral concerts,
sometimes acapella and sometimes performs with the Sinfonia.
The performances of the Sinfonia and Choirs are
well publicised through the St Andrew's Congregation and in the public press.
Con Spirito Lunchtime Concerts
The Con Spirito series of Friday lunchtime concerts has been
running for a number of years and are regarded by St Andrew’s as part of its
outreach to the city of Brisbane through the Arts. The series is scheduled for
the fourth Friday of each month from March to October and are designed to
provide mainly tertiary level music students with a performing opportunity
different from that offered by their institution. Students from the Queensland
Conservatorium (QCGU) and the University of Queensland’s School of Music are
regular performers in this series. A wide range of music is presented and
performers include singers, string players, wind players (both individual and
ensemble), pianists and organists. In recent series, groups have included a
clarinet trio, saxophone quartet, string orchestra, brass ensemble and wind
quintet. The concerts are free of charge. Please contact Barbara Tate (07) 3217
3529 for further details.
